Pontotoc’s Delvin Zinn will postpone his chance at professional baseball.

Zinn was selected in the 28th round (833rd overall) by the Chicago Cubs in the MLB Draft on Wednesday but has decided to honor his commitment to play shortstop at Mississippi State.

Zinn announced his decision via Twitter on Friday stating “So thankful to have been drafted by the Chicago Cubs but I’m going to honor my commitment to Mississippi State! #HailState

Zinn hit .296 as a senior with seven doubles, a home run and 17 RBIs.

Fellow Bulldogs signee Jared Padgett also turned down a contract with the Cubs.

Greg Pickett agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Phillies. MSU now awaits the decisions of Austin Riley, Gray Fenter and Elih Marrero.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
