Recapping last week at MSU

I’m back in the saddle after taking some time off last week. I didn’t do anything extravagant but enjoyed my staycation here in Starkville and got some overdue things done around the house. I’ll take off another week off sometime next month before football gets cranked up but lets get you caught up on what went on last week while I was away.

Mississippi State junior defensive tackle and former Houston standout Chris Jones was named a Preseason First Team All-American by the Sporting News.

Diamond Dog signee Austin Riley of Olive Branch agreed to a $1.6 million contract with the Atlanta Braves.

Women’s basketball coach Vic Schaefer spoke with the media about summer workouts.

Four newcomers to the women’s basketball team – Zion Campbell, Roshunda Johnson, Teaira McCowan and Jazmine Spearsshared their thoughts on the first few summer workouts.

Kickoff times and TV Networks were set for three more MSU football games this season – LSU, Northwestern State and Missouri.

Former State hurler Lucas Laster signed a contract with the River City Rascals to play independent league baseball.

Women’s golfer Ally McDonald of Fulton was nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.

Pitcher Preston Brown will forgo his final year with the Diamond Dogs to attend medical school.

MSU signee Gray Fenter inked a $1 million contract with the Baltimore Orioles.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
