Last year, Mississippi State’s Big Dawg Camp resulted in eight commitments.
Things are already off to a fast start as three-star athlete Korey Charles chose the Bulldogs before registration even began.
Charles announced his decision via Twitter while on campus stating “I was told by many that I would know the school that would be right for me when I walked on campus. When I walked on this campus, I knew this is where I belonged. With that said I am proud and excited to announce that today, I am committing to Mississippi State University! I just want to thank God, my mom, my coaches and everyone who helped me along the way to the day! Most of I want to thank the coaches who offered me and gave me opportunities to play for them! #STATESquad16”
Charles also owned offers from Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Penn State, South Florida and Wisconsin.
The 5-foot-11, 173-pounder from Tallahassee, Fla., is rated the nation’s No. 22 athlete by 247Sports.com and is expected to play cornerback at MSU.
As a junior, Charles totaled 1,571 all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns. He carried 227 times for 1,120 yards and 10 touchdowns and had six 100-plus yard games on the ground.
Charles also caught 19 passes for 205 yards and added 10 kickoff returns for 246 yards and another score while leading North Florida Christian to the Class 2A state semifinals.
