Video: Dak Prescott

Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott spoke for the first time since fall camp started. Find out what the senior quarterback had to say about starting his final fall, the summer workouts with his receivers and what he thinks about the back-up signal callers.

On his last first day of practice…

“Knowing everything I do this season is the last time I will get to do it. It is exciting and we have done well as a team so far this season.”

On receiver Fred Ross…

“He is a very dynamic player. I believe he is probably one of the best in the SEC. He is very talented and his routes are great. He is always improving and trying to get better at every aspect of the position.”

On center Jamaal Clayborn…

“Our communication is great. We always know what each other are thinking. He will be great and will get his job done. He is smart, pays attention and picks up on thins fast.”

On the team’s quarterbacks…

“I think they are better than I was at that age. I am pushing them to make sure they get better each and every day. That is a very good group and the future is bright.”

On depth at the receiver position…

“The guys that are stepping up played a lot last year. Even though we are losing Malcolm [Johnson], Jameon [Lewis] and Robert Johnson, these guys have played a lot against quality teams. They are ready to step up and be the guys.”

On receiver De’Runnya Wilson…

“He has improved his routes. He has great hands and has improved his knowledge of the game. He was kind of fresh to the game when he got here. He is changing up his routes and getting better. Fred Ross and Fred Brown are helping him. We have a good core.

On breaking records at Mississippi State…

“I want to win every game this year. I do not care if I break any records. That is not what I care about. I just want to put my team in the best situation to win. If I can do that and break records then I am excited to do it.”

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
