Video: Will Redmond

Mississippi State senior cornerback Will Redmond speaks about the bond he has built with the other players in the secondary over the last four years. Redmond did not start for the Bulldogs last season and shared his thoughts on the attention he is receiving in the preseason for awards.

On being named to preseason watch lists…

“Coach (Dan) Mullen always says that you cannot put much in to it. It is more about what you do during the regular season. They are saying good things, so I guess that is good. I try to come out and worry about how I can get better.”

 On depth in the secondary…

“A lot of the guys we have coming back have been playing together for four years now. We have a bond that is great. A big change I have seen is that the safeties come to the corners and want to watch film together. The bond is stronger this year between us. We are a brotherhood.”

On the losses from the defense…

“They are making a big deal out of the loss of a lot of starters. Let them keep doing it. There are three guys who did not start a game last year that are on national award watch lists. I do not know what to say to that. We come in and work. We know the guys we play beside and know what they can do.”

On the secondary giving up big plays last season…

“The defense breaks down sometimes. Early on we had a few mistakes. There was one game where we gave up five big plays.”

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
