Sword, Houston preview preseason practice

Mississippi State guards Craig Sword and Demetrius Houston update their health status as the Bulldogs prepare to begin preseason practices on Monday, Oct. 5.

Senior guard Craig Sword

On battling injuries …
“I feel way better than I did a couple of weeks ago. I have been in rehab two times a day. It is coming along.”

On getting practice started …
“I am just ready to get things started. I wish we could start today.”

On coach Ben Howland
“Ever since he has gotten here, I have liked everything about him. He has been doing all of the right things. He has everybody in the right positions. He has been doing a great job since he got here.”

On Quinndary Weatherspoon and Aric Holman …
“Q came in and surprised me a lot. He kind of reminded me of myself. He attacks and is very physical. Aric is a great passer. By the time he gets back, he is going to help us out a lot.”

On working with Malik Newman …
“It is working out well. We have to get on the same page for a lot of stuff. Malik is a good point guard. Once we get our communication and chemistry together then we should be good.”

On recovery …
“I feel very good. I have not had any pain since I had my surgery. I am just ready to get back on the court and give it my all for my last year.”

Sophomore forward Demetrius Houston

On battling injuries …
“I am getting better every day. I have to continue to recover and do what I am supposed to do to get back on the court with my team.”

On Coach Howland …
“You don’t have a choice but to listen to him. He knows what he is doing. He is teaching us what we are going to have to learn at the next level. We have to continue to stay focus and listen to what he has to say.”

On the wing position …
“It is a good thing. Coach Howland likes aggressive wing players and that is what I am. I have to do what I do and run the floor.”

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
