Redshirt sophomore outfielder Brent Rooker hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Maroon a 6-2 victory versus Gray in Mississippi State’s 15th scrimmage of the fall. The Sunday afternoon exhibition took place at Dudy Noble Field.

Rooker finished the day 2 for 3 with four RBIs and a run scored. The home run was Rooker’s third of the fall season. Redshirt freshman first baseman Cole Gordon provided the only other hit for Maroon, a two-run home run to right field in the second.

Gray’s only scoring came from a two-run homer to right in the fifth courtesy of redshirt junior outfielder Cody Brown.

Starting pitchers Austin Sexton and Vance Tatum continued their impressive fall campaigns, combining to allow just one earned run in seven innings pitched with six strikeouts and one walk.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
