Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen joined the rest of the league coaches on the SEC Teleconference on Wednesday.

Here is a transcript of Mullen’s time on the call:

Opening comment:

Mullen: “Right now we’re in the middle of a three week home stretch. It started last week. We had a great home victory last week and then another one this week. This is a typical part to the season for us to see how our guys are developing and continuing to take steps forward.

I thought we took a step forward with how we played last week. We played like a better football team than we did the week before that. We need to do the same as we move forward right now.

We need take a step forward as a team and play better in every phase this week to improve. This is our last non-conference game so after this it’s all SEC games. We want to put ourselves in position to compete in those games.”

How do you feel you did defending against big plays against Texas A&M’s offense?

Mullen: “I thought we did okay. They kind of hit us with some tempo early on the first two drives. We gave up touchdowns on the first two drives getting used to the speed. I thought we adapted pretty well the rest of the day.”

Is it difficult facing an offense like Texas A&M’s that has four wideouts that can make big plays?

Mullen: “Our guys face that at practice every day. We’ve got guys that can do that on our offense.”

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
