Mississippi State junior center Chinwe Okorie has been nominated for the Allstate Good Works Team.

Okorie is one of 257 players recognized for their community service. The Allstate Good Works Team is selected by the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association and National Association of Basketball Coaches. A final group of 20 will be announced in February.

The 6-foot-5 native of Nigeria spends her time volunteering with M-Club service projects, Travis Outlaw Day, Special Olympics, Bully’s Book Club, T.K. Martin Center Fun Run, Chick-Fil-A Family Night and Make-A-Wish.

It’s a great honor to be noticed for good works. I feel blessed,” Okorie said. “I try to give back as much as I can. I really respect the fact that people noticed my giving back and nominated me for this award.”

On the court, Okorie has started five of the Bulldogs’ six games averaging 7.5 points and 5.2 rebounds.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
