Mississippi State sophomore guard Victoria Vivians was added to her third player of the year watch list on Thursday.
Having been previously selected to both the Wooden Award and Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watch lists, Vivians was picked to the Naismith Trophy Early Season watch list on Thursday.
“I am blessed to be considered with so many great players for this award,” Vivians said. “The Naismith Trophy is such a prestigious award, and to be considered for it is a tremendous honor. I wouldn’t be in this position without some great teammates and coaches, and I just want to do what I can to support them and help our team achieve our goals.”
The 6-foot-1 Carthage native leads the ninth-ranked Bulldogs averaging 17.9 points per game, which ranks fourth in the SEC. Vivians has scored in double figures in six-straight outings.
She joins nine other SEC players on the 50 player Naismith Trophy watch list including South Carolina’s Alaina Coates, Tiffany Mitchell and A’ja Wilson, Tennessee’s Diamond DeShields and Bashaara Graves, Kentucky’s Makayla Epps and Texas A&M’s Courtney Walker and Courtney Williams.
A midseason watch list will be reduced to 30 on Feb. 10. Ten semifinalists will be selected on March 3 and four finalists picked on March 18. The winner will be announced on April 4.
UConn’s Breanna Stewart has claimed the Naismith Trophy in each of the last two seasons.
