Mississippi State held its fourth open bowl practice on Monday afternoon in helmets and shoulder pads.

Tuesday will be the final practice that will be open to the public in Starkville.

Here are the notes I jotted down while I was out there.

Junior offensive guard Devon Desper did not practice for the fourth straight day. He is the only starting offensive lineman that has sat out during the early bowl prep.

Junior defensive tackle Nick James did not fully dress out of the fourth consecutive practice and spent most of the afternoon in the injury pit.

Freshman cornerback Chris Stamps remained in the red jersey. Stamps did have on shoulder pads but did not participate in contact drills.

During 7-on-7, redshirt freshman linebacker Gerri Green broke up a pass by freshman Nick Tiano.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Elijah Staley was not at practice which likely meant he practiced with the basketball team today. Tony Hughes was not at practice either but I was told he has the option to coach the Bulldogs in the bowl game if he choses to.

During the scrimmage, junior defensive end Johnathan Calvin sacked redshirt freshman Nick Fitzgerald.

Junior safety Deontay Evans broke up a Fitzgerald pass.

Freshman defensive end Anfernee Mullins sacked junior quarterback Damian Williams. Mullins really had a great day of practice.

Freshman defensive tackle Fletcher Adams sacked redshirt freshman quarterback Nathan Gieb. Adams too had a solid day of work.

For the first time in bowl prep, I saw junior linebackers Beniquez Brown and Richie Brown get in a few snaps.

Senior safety Kendrick Market attended practice in street clothes.

Freshman running back Alec Murphy had a 70-yard touchdown run.

Redshirt freshman running back Aeris Williams broke a tackle by sophomore linebacker J.T. Gray en route to a 70-yard touchdown run.

Williams had a 20-yard completion to wide open freshman tight end Justin Johnson but junior cornerback Cedric Jiles came up and lowered the wood on him along the right sideline.

Freshman tight end Farrod Green had a great lead block to spring Tiano free into the open field on a read option.

Tiano was able to avoid a sack by Mullins and scrambled ahead for a few yards.

Fitzgerald had a 70-yard touchdown pass to Aeris Williams on a screen play.

Sophomore linebacker Kelan Chairs picked off Gieb.

Tiano had a pass batted high into the air and intercepted by Jiles.

Junior safety Kivon Coman broke up a Tiano pass.

Tiano completed a pass to sophomore wide receiver Gabe Myles to the left side of the field but was immediately popped by Gray.

Fitzgerald fired a pass to freshman wide receiver Deddrick Thomas, who made an excellent grab with redshirt freshman cornerback Chris Rayford all over him in tight coverage.

Freshman linebacker Tim Washington broke up a Fitzgerald pass.

Freshman wide receiver Malik Dear left the practice field with a bag of ice around his right ankle.
