The recruiting trail has been kind to Mississippi State this week. Four-star quarterback Keytaon Thompson (2017) committed to the Bulldogs on Wednesday and four-star defensive end Emmit Gooden did the same on Thursday.
Gooden is rated the nation’s No. 13 strong-side defensive end and the No. 7 overall prospect in Tennessee. The 6-foot-4, 280-pounder is the younger brother of former MSU basketball standout Jarvis Varnado.
Gooden chose the Bulldogs over a dozen other offers including SEC scholarships from Alabama, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Texas A&M.
Gooden recorded 88 tackles, 27 for loss, 10 sacks and forced three fumbles this season at Haywood High School. He is the 15th member of State’s 2016 class.
