Mississippi State may have to wait a while on the arrival of four-star defensive end Emmit Gooden.

The commitment announced Wednesday that he is enrolling at Holmes Community College this semester in hopes of joining the Bulldogs in 2017.

Gooden was the highest rated pledge among MSU’s 2016 class. The 6-foot-4, 280-pounder from Brownsville, Tennessee committed to the Bulldogs on Dec. 17 over a dozen other offers.

Gooden is the younger brother of former MSU basketball standout Jarvis Varnado.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
