Mississippi State received its fifth preseason top 20 ranking on Thursday as the USA Today coaches poll picked the Diamond Dogs at No. 17.

MSU was previously picked 11th by Collegiate Baseball, 15th by D1Baseball.com, 17th by Perfect Game and 20th by Baseball America.

Joining the Bulldogs from the SEC in the coaches’ poll is top-ranked Florida, No. 3 Vanderbilt, No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 5 LSU, No. 22 Arkansas and and No. 23 South Carolina.

Ole Miss (10), Missouri (3), Tennessee (3) and Kentucky (1) were in the receiving votes category. Mississippi State received 255 points.

The sixth and final preseason poll from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association will be released on Monday.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
