Video: Quinndary Weatherspoon, Aric Holman

Mississippi State freshmen Quinndary Weatherspoon and Aric Holman talk with the media about their success this season.

Quinndary Weatherspoon, Freshman, Guard

On what has been different for him since starting…
“It starts in practice with me being with the starting group and me trying to push everyone. In practice I try to push myself as hard as I can and once I get to the game I try to make everything else easy.”

On his confidence…
“I think my confidence started in practice with me making shots and trying to see what I do best so I can help my team out. My confidence grew when conference play started. After the [Texas] A&M game it helped me find out how tough conference was going to be.”

On starting at power forward…
“I never would have thought I would play power forward. I probably would have laughed if someone told me I’m going to be doing that. It’s kind of funny to me right now that I’m playing the power forward position and scoring 18 points. I try to use my speed on the offensive end and try to get a basket.”

On being able to play again…
“After the surgery I thought it would take me forever to get where I am right now. I was in a lot of pain and I didn’t really say anything about it, but I’m really happy to be where I am now.”

On his recovery…
“It is rewarding to be back right now but it was a challenge coming back mid season because these guys probably had 40 practices ahead of me and I’m just now learning things day-by-day. It was hard but it has been a good challenge. There were a lot of late nights spent in the gym.”

On the team hitting their stride…
“It was hard to see us lose in the beginning because everyone worked so hard, but I recognize how young we are and it was also hard because the seniors weren’t used to [Coach Ben] Howland’s coaching style. As of right now I would say that we are all on the same page and it has gotten a lot better.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
