Mississippi State was able to keep one of its own in Starkville by signing defensive tackle Kobe Jones on Wednesday.

The four-star Yellow Jacket standout chose to stay home with the Bulldogs over 15 other scholarships including SEC offers from Ole Miss, Missouri and Alabama.

Jones made 33 tackles as a senior including nine for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery and participated in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl.

The 6-foot-4, 265-pounder is rated the No. 9 prospect in Mississippi and the nation’s 23rd best defensive tackle.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
