Jack Kruger and Cody Brown combined for all of the offense for No. 20 Mississippi State in its 4-2 win over UMass Lowell Friday night.

Both players were 3-for-3 at the plate with Kruger cranking out a solo homer run and two RBIs and Brown adding a double as the Diamond Dogs improved to 3-2.

All-American Dakota Hudson picked up his first win on the mound tossing six shutout innings and a career-best nine strikeouts. Blake Smith pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and struck out all four batters he faced for the save.

MSU plays a doubleheader Saturday facing Nicholls State (4-2) at 11 a.m. and UMass Lowell (1-1) at 2:30 p.m.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
