Mississippi State junior right-hander Dakota Hudson was selected as the SEC’s Pitcher of the Week following his outstanding outing against Vanderbilt last Friday.

Hudson pitched a career-high nine innings without allowing an earned run with eight strikeouts and giving up just four hits and two walks. The Commodores failed to have an extra base hit against him.

It is the second straight week for the Bulldogs to have a player recognized by the league as Brent Rooker earned SEC Player of the Week last week. Hudson is the first MSU hurler to claim the honor since teammate Vance Tatum did so on March 2, 2015.

In five starts, the Dunlap, Tennessee native is 2-1 with a 1.38 ERA, 17 walks and a team-leading 40 strikeouts.

South Carolina’s John Jones was the SEC Player of the Week while Alabama’s Chandler Taylor was named SEC Freshman of the Week.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
