Mississippi State’s top football signee Jeffery Simmons will face charges stemming from a fight with a female last Thursday in Macon.

Simmons, a senior at Noxubee County High School, and four others including Sophia Taylor – the female Simmons struck – are being charged with disturbing the peace by the Macon Police Department. The charge is a misdemeanor.

Additionally, Simmons will face a simple assault charge after an affidavit was signed against him by Taylor.

Video of the incident went rival on Saturday.

Simmons was the top-ranked player in Mississippi and the Bulldogs’ top recruit in the 2016 class.

“We are aware of the situation. As more details become available, we will continue to evaluate the situation,” said MSU team spokesman Bill Martin.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
