Mississippi State’s Jake Mangum has continued his tear at the plate and in doing so was named the SEC Freshman of the Week.
Mangum went 10-for-18 last week with a double, triple, three RBIs, three runs scored and two walks. He also filled in to play center field due to an injury to Jacob Robson.
The Pearl native leads the league with a .437 batting average and is second with a .500 on-base percentage. Mangum also sits second in the conference hitting .429 in SEC play.
Mangum has reached base safely in 10 straight games and has raised his batting average by 326 points since March 1.
Texas A&M first baseman Hunter Melton was named SEC Player of the Week and Missouri’s Tanner Houck earned SEC Pitcher of the Week.
