Mississippi State’s Dakota Hudson made the cut for the Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list on Wednesday.

The junior right-hander has made nine starts this spring with a 4-3 record and ranks fourth in the SEC with a 2.08 earned run average. Hudson leads the Bulldogs with 67 strikeouts in 60 2/3 innings.

Hudson had a school-record stretch of 34 2/3 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run earlier in the year.

Hudson is one of 14 players from the conference on the midseason watch list. Semifinalists will be selected on June 1 and finalists on June 13. The award will be presented on June 30.

Will Clark is the only former Diamond Dog to receive the Golden Spikes Award in 1985. Outfielder Andrew Benintendi of Arkansas won the award last year.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
