Will Redmond was the second Mississippi State player to hear his name called in the NFL Draft Friday night.
The San Francisco 49ers selected the 5-foot-11, 182-pound cornerback with the fifth pick of the third round (68th overall).
Redmond was limited to just seven starts as a senior after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during practice on Oct. 20. The Memphis native made 25 tackles and two interceptions before missing the final six games.
Redmond appeared in 27 career games for the Bulldogs with 99 tackles, 5.5 for loss, eight pass break-ups and five interceptions. He led MSU with three picks as a junior.
Redmond is the first Bulldogs selected by the 49ers since Anthony Dixon in 2010.
