Dan Mullen is back out raising money for charity.

Two weeks ago, Mullen raised over $40,000 by finishing the Boston Marathon. Now the Mississippi State coach is competing in a sport with a slower pace.

Mullen will again team up with former Bulldogs fullback Fred McCrary for the sixth straight year in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge golf tournament at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Georgia.

Mullen and McCrary will compete against 12 other teams from a dozen different universities for a share of a $540,000 purse. A $100,000 prize goes to the winning team.

Last year, Mullen and McCrary finished in ninth place and raised $20,000 to add to their total of $160,000 raised for the Mullen Family 36 Foundation at the event during their five year run.

Competing teams will play a two-man scramble format over 18 holes using confirmed handicap adjustments. Schools will be paired for a shotgun start on the first nine holes and then re-paired, based on scores, and the round will continue with consecutive tee times for the second nine holes.

Mullen and McCrary will be paired against Belk Bowl opponent N.C. State featuring Dave Doeren and Terry Harvey.

Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson and Jon Barry have won the event the last two years and four of the last five.

A skills challenge will take place on Monday and the golf tournament itself gets going on Tuesday.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
