One pick after the Colorado Rockies selected Reid Humphreys on Friday, another Bulldog came off the board.

Mississippi State pitcher Daniel Brown was drafted in the seventh round (201st overall) by the Milwaukee Brewers, which holds a draft slot value of $225,500.

Brown is in his second season with the Bulldogs after transferring in from Tyler (Texas) Junior College. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound southpaw has appeared in 22 games as a junior including six starts. Brown sports a 4-2 record with two saves and a 3.62 ERA, 54 strikeouts and 18 walks over 54 2/3 innings.

It is the first time the Mount Vernon, Texas native has been drafted. Brown is the first MSU player picked by the Brewers since Brandon Woodruff in 2014.

Brown will have until July 15 to sign with Milwaukee or return to Starkville for his senior season.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
