A Mississippi State player came off the board early on Day 3 of the MLB Draft on Saturday.

Junior pitcher Zac Houston was taken with the ninth pick of the 11th round (325th overall).

Houston is the second Bulldog to be drafted by the Tigers this year joining Jacob Robson, who was selected in the eighth round on Friday.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder from Poplarville is 6-0 through 18 appearances and six starts this season. Houston sports a 1.63 ERA with 42 strikeouts and 19 walks through 38 2/3 innings of work.

It is the first time Houston has been drafted. He will have until July 15 to sign with the Tigers or return to MSU.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
