Zac Houston will not be returning to Mississippi State for his senior season after signing with the Detroit Tigers for $190,000 on Thursday.
The 6-foot-5, 250-pound pitcher was taken by the Tigers in the 11th round (325th overall) during last week’s MLB Draft. Houston is the third Bulldog to sign a professional contract joining former teammates Daniel Brown and Nathaniel Lowe. Signees Colin Holderman and Walker Robbins have also inked pro deals.
Houston pitched in 43 games during his MSU career including six starts. As a junior, the Poplarville native went 6-0 with a 1.63 ERA, 42 strikeouts and 19 walks over 38 2/3 innings in 18 appearances.
Houston is the first Diamond Dog to sign with Detroit since his former teammate Brett Pirtle in 2014.
