The St. Louis Cardinals announced the signing of first round draft pick Dakota Hudson on Saturday.

The former Mississippi State pitcher inked a $2 million deal with the Cardinals after being selected 34th overall in last week’s MLB Draft. The slot value for the pick was $1.878 million.

The All-American right-hander from Dunlap, Tennessee made 17 starts for the Bulldogs as a junior and finished with a 9-5 record and a 2.55 earned run average. Hudson led the team with 115 strikeouts and 113 innings pitched.

Hudson is the 13th first round draft pick MSU history and third under John Cohen. He was also the first Bulldog to be drafted by St. Louis since Brad Freeman in 1998.

Hudson was previously selected in the 36th round by the Texas Rangers out of Sequatchie County High School in 2013.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
