Brent Rooker will step in the batter’s box at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska this season after all.

Rooker will represent Mississippi State in tonight’s College Home Run Derby at 7:30 tonight on ESPN2.

The redshirt sophomore will be one of eight participants joining Greg Diechmann of LSU, Colby Bortles of Ole Miss, Dylan Busby of Florida State, Hagen Owenby of East Tennessee State, Gary Russo of Miami (Ohio), Reid Russell of Lamar and Joe Davis of Houston.

Rooker led the Bulldogs with 11 home runs in 2016 and has 13 for his career. He was drafted in the 38th round by the Minnesota Twins but is currently playing for the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod League where he is hitting .400 with 20 hits, three doubles and eight RBIs.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
