A day after being added to the Wuerffel Award watch list, Mississippi State senior Brandon Holloway was also selected to the watch list for the Doak Walker Award.
The Doak Walker Award is presented annually to the nation’s top running back. Holloway is one of 13 backs from the Southeastern Conference to earn a spot on the preseason watch list.
Holloway started the final eight games in the Bulldogs’ backfield last season rushing for 413 yards on 92 attempts. The 5-foot-8, 165-pounder from Tampa, Florida also caught 33 passes for 396 yards and five touchdowns and returned 24 kickoffs for 567 yards and another score.
The list will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists on Nov. 16 and three finalists will be announced on Nov. 22. The winner will be proclaimed on Dec. 8 as part of The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
Alabama’s Derrick Henry claimed the honor last season.
