A fifth member of Mississippi State’s 2013 College World Series finalist team is headed to the Major Leagues.

The New York Yankees called up pitcher Jonathan Holder from Triple-A Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre on Friday marking the 56th Bulldog to reach the big leagues.

Holder was 2-0 with six saves, 35 strikeouts and no walks in 20 1/3 innings with a 0.89 earned run average in a dozen outings for the RailRiders.

It is the fourth promotion for the Gulfport right-hander after beginning the season in Advanced A. He is 5-1 overall on the year with a 1.65 ERA, 16 saves, 101 strikeouts and seven walks in 65 1/3 innings.

Holder is the fourth MSU player to make it to the majors for the first time this year joining Chris Stratton, Chad Girodo and Adam Frazier.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
