Mississippi State has a tough two-game SEC road swing at Georgia and Auburn at the end of September that could ultimately dictate how the 2017 season will go.

Those two games are part of three straight conference dates the Bulldogs will face in the first month after opening league play at home against LSU.

The Bulldogs will get to break in against two non-conference foes hosting FCS opponent Charleston Southern in the season opener and then traveling down to Louisiana Tech, where MSU lost in 2008.

State’s longest treks of the season will be to Texas A&M and Arkansas as opposed to trips to BYU and UMass this year. Speaking of which, both the Cougars and Minutemen make return trips to Starkville in 2017.

The Bulldogs are back to their traditional seven-home game schedule next season with five of their final seven outings being played within the friendly confines of Davis Wade Stadium.

Mississippi State will get three of its final four league games in Starkville with Kentucky, Alabama and Ole Miss visiting.

The Egg Bowl is returning to Thanksgiving which is bound to create many an argument around the turkey and dressing for families throughout the state.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
