Monday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Monday morning …

Following a hit to the head in the first half of a game Arkansas eventually lost to the University formerly known as Northeast Louisiana, Razorbacks quarterback Tyler Wilson is listed as “day to day.” His status for this week’s game against Alabama is unclear. While the Alabama-Arkansas game still has major implications in the SEC, it’s lost a little luster since Arkansas’ defense gave up 550 yards in a 34-31 overtime loss. …

Speaking of the upset of the week, my alma mater, known these days as Louisiana-Monroe, is getting votes in the AP poll, 23 of them as a matter of fact. That puts them ahead of such notables as Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Arizona State, North Carolina. In fact, the Warhawks surged past getting votes and are ranked this week in the power poll of Dennis Dodd at I’m not too in touch with my Monroe history since the move to Division 1, but I’m going to say this is the first time the school has received votes in the AP Top 25. …

Tulane safety Devon Walker is listed in stable condition after surgery for a spinal injury in the Green Wave’s 45-10 loss at Tulsa. …

Looking ahead to the Longhorns, what can you criticize in a 45-0 win? How about defense. Texas was pleased with its shutout, felt like it showed improvement from Week 1 to Week 2, but was also described as bend but don’t break in an easy win against New Mexico. Cedric Golden of the Austin American-Statesman says Texas is about to face a challenging part of its schedule beginning with “beatable but sky-high” Ole Miss.
