Tennessee loses free safety Brian Randolph, its leading tackler, to an ACL injury. Randolph was injured while trying to make a tackle in the Vols’ 37-20 loss to Florida on Saturday. …

Trae Elston has company now. Elston was suspended by the SEC last week for what league officials called a flagrant hit. On Monday the league announced the suspension of South Carolina defensive back DJ Swearinger for a helmet-to-helmet hit against a UAB player. Like Elston, who is expected to start for Ole Miss against Tulane this week, Swearinger will sit out one game, but his punishment will be a conference game as he will not play for the Gamecocks against Missouri. …

Speaking of Missouri, some are questioning the decision of quarterback James Franklin, who because of an injured shoulder chose not to play in the Tigers’ 24-20 win over Arizona State. Dennis Dodd of CBS writes that shouldn’t be the case. …

Speaking of injured quarterbacks, South Carolina’s Connor Shaw, who re-injured his shoulder against UAB, is expected to play against Missouri. …

Off the field, three Kentucky players were cited last week for possession of marijuana, Wildcats coach Joker Phillips confirms. That was days before Kentucky lost at home to Sun Belt Conference member Western Kentucky. Now the Cats are moving on from the loss, players and coaches say, and focusing on their SEC opener at Florida.
