Auburn coach Gene Chizik says he’d like to see his offense find an identity. That will probably be a running identity, and he hasn’t named a starter at quarterback going into this Saturday’s game at Ole Miss where the Rebels are a rare favorite in an SEC game. Clint Moseley replaced Kiehl Frazier in the second half of the Tigers’ 24-7 home loss to Arkansas Saturday, but there were differing opinions from the two players afterward as to whether there will be a true competition for the starting job this week. Moseley had big success against Ole Miss last year, going 12-for-15 with four touchdown passes.

Auburn, 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the league, ranks near the bottom of NCAA statistics categories. As a result, you’re hearing the “buy in” talk from some Auburn players like Hugh Freeze and some Ole Miss players were saying earlier this season. Less than two complete seasons removed from leading Auburn to the national championship, there are questions about job security for Chizik. Following the Arkansas loss Chizik issued an apology to fans. …

From Baton Rouge, LSU, which began the season ranked No. 1 by the coaches, has significant issues to correct on offense and is seeking improvement amid a rash of injuries as South Carolina — now No. 3 South Carolina — visits this week. …

There’s been a comeback for a legendary coach that some had considered to be no longer at the top of his game.
