Overcoming the Aggies

It’s been a rebuilding project at Ole Miss since the day Hugh Freeze was hired, but there’s a difference kind of rebuilding for the Rebels’ coach this week. He has to get his team past the disappointment of being one inch and perhaps mere seconds from ending an SEC losing streak that has now reached 16 games. Freeze says he’ll have the Rebels “motivated” this week as struggling Auburn visits.

As sickening a feeling that this loss was the more I think about it the more I think this kind of loss was needed for the long run. Freeze keeps talking about making it to the fourth quarter and against the Aggies they did that with a 10 point lead. Now the players know that they can make it to the fourth quarter but they still need to make it ‘through’ the fourth quarter and play hard until there are all 0’s on that clock. The coaches now know they have to make the right calls and the players know they have to go full speed the whole game because a good team can always come back in a close game. We haven’t had any of these type games the last couple of years and I think this one will be a good learning experience. Watching them they actually LOOK like a team that is coming together.
