C.J. Johnson talks Auburn

An after-practice Q-and-A here with Ole Miss defensive end C.J. Johnson …

Q:  On not knowing who Auburn is playing at QB, how does that change with each different guy?

“When Frazier is in the game they like to run some spread stuff similar to our offense, but when Moseley is in the game they are more of a stretch type team. Our coaches are going to have us prepared fro anything they are going to give us.”

Q:  Do you prefer going against one or the other styles?

“Not really we just have got to stop whatever they do.  That is our job, to stop the offense.”

Q:  Auburn gave up 7 sacks last week, who do you guys feel you can do to replicate that?

“I don’t know. We  just got to continue to do what we’ve been doing. We have got to have a great get-off and just win the one on ones.’
Q:  Auburn has talked a lot this week about just getting back to the basics and running the ball, when you look at their front and backs what do you see?

“It’s the SEC I mean anybody that plays in the SEC is a great player. I’m sure they will be well-coached and come in here with the mindset of trying to win on the road in the SEC.  We’re going to have to buckle down and be ready for it.”

Q:  Comment on your personal play this year in terms of rushing the passer

“I’ve underachieved big time.  There is couple of things that I have to keep working on and getting better at.  They are going to try to do a lot of chipping so we’ve got to prepare for that, but other than that I need to focus on coming out here everyday and trying to do what I can to become a better player.”

Q:  What are you working on to become a better player?

“Mainly my get-off and adding some knew moves.  Also reading the tackle sets.”

Q:  How hungry is the team to get an SEC win?

“This team has been hungry since Day 1. We know what we have to do to come out and compete on Saturdays to win. We’ve got a bad taste in our mouth from last Saturday so we’ll come out hungry and ready to work.”

Q:  Do you feel like once you get one that others will come in bunches?

“Oh yeah no doubt.  You saw that with the game Saturday when you get turnovers you just get bunches of them.  Once we start winning in the SEC we will win a bunch this year.”

  • CJ Johnson seems to have matured a lot since last year. After following him on Twitter before he was told to deactivate his account, I wasn’t sure he’s make it.

  • I agree. I see more maturity when we’re around. That doesn’t mean he’s not mature when we aren’t around. He’s grown to handle interviews quite well.
