Dan Werner talks Auburn defense

A Q-and-A here with Ole Miss offensive coordinator Dan Werner …

Q:  On Auburn’s defense

“They are really good on defense.  If you look at some of their scores they have only given up a few touchdowns all year long.  They are really fast and physical and it’ll be a real good test for us.”

Q:  What are the strengths of the Auburn defense?

“Their defensive line is their strength.  They are physical and their two defensive ends are 250 pounds, but they can really run.  The two inside guys are big 320-pound guys, big physical guys and they have not given up a whole lot of yards or points this year.”
Q:  Do you think guys have bounced back from last weekend?

“No doubt. It’s tough for all of us, but we talked about it as a staff, and we can’t let it beat us twice.  Just like when we win we can’t rest on that, and when we lose we have to move on to the next game.  Our motto is we can’t let somebody beat us twice.  That week is over and we have to bounce back and win us a game this week.”

Q:  Talk about Vince Sanders and Ja-mes Logan

“They have always done well. The thing is now that people are going to cover Donte more that opens up the other guys and they have picked up the slack. Now it makes it tough on them because if they try to double Donte then we have a bunch of other guys who can make plays too.”

Q:  On Korvic Neat’s return

“Just another way that people have to worry about covering him now too. The more threats we put on the field the harder it makes it for the defense.”

Q:  Are you surprised by the success of the offense?

“Well that’s what we hope for at the beginning of the year.  I don’t want to say I’m surprised, but I’m glad we are playing well.  I hate to sound like a broken record, but if we could protect the ball better we’d be really good.”
