Tuesday Morning Update

Spanning the (SEC) globe on a Tuesday morning. …

Ole Miss basketball coach Andy Kennedy has his preseason presser later today. Notes and updates here. In rebuilding a front line that will lose seniors Reggie Buckner and Murphy Holloway after this season, Kennedy added two verbal commits earlier this week, Witchita, Kan., forward Sebastian Saiz, a lean and athletic type, who played for Spain’s U-18 team last year before transferring to Sunrise Christian Academy.

On Sunday Kennedy added Piney Woods forward Dwight Coleby, rated a three-star prospect by Scout.com. Coleby told the website he chose Ole Miss over Memphis.

From Little Rock, Arkansas AD Jeff Long told the Touchdown Club that the school’s search for Bobby Petrino’s replacement is currently in the research phase. More from Long here on Arkansas interim coach John L. Smith

From Baton Rouge, LSU coach Les Miles was pleased with the improvement of his offensive line in the Tigers’ win over South Carolina. After falling behind in the SEC and BCS conversations following its loss at Florida, LSU is trying to recapture momentum from the win over the Gamecocks. …

From Birmingham, the Alabama-Auburn rivalry takes on a different turn here with a “pool” to guess the time of the supposed firing of Auburn coach Gene Chizik. Proceeds, the story says, go to aid a mother of two with cancer. Chizik called for unity after Auburn’s 41-20 loss at Ole Miss that ended the Rebels’ 16-game SEC losing streak. Columnist Kevin Scarbinsky writes about striking similarities between Chizik and his former boss, Texas coach Mack Brown. …

From Nashville, Vanderbilt coach James Franklin is trying to get more out of his players … and his fans too. Without calling it “easy,” Franklin is trying to get his players to see the difference in their remaining opponents — including Ole Miss in Oxford on Nov. 10 — as opposed to the opponents they’ve already plays as Vanderbilt — like Ole Miss — tries to achieve bowl-eligibility.

  • You guys were so right again. It appears that Trae Elston is the example the SEC has settled on to send a message to………well, the smaller schools in the league only. Did anyone else see the belly to back suplex that Stone Cold Steve Austin would have been proud of by the Alabama 3rd String Freshman against Missouri? And have we seen a suspension? No sir…..then again, we are Ole Miss and they are, the 14 time defending National Champion, Alabama Crimson Tide…..it’s not like they need more help. Inconsistency is the only consistency from the SEC, in my opinion.
