Millinghaus in, Carter still out

Ole Miss opens its basketball season Friday night against Mississippi Valley State with almost all of its players available.

Freshman guard Derrick Millinghaus sat out the 77-62 win over Montevallo with an academic issue. Junior college transfer forward Jason Carter missed the exhibition for a violation of team rules, Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy said.

Millinghaus will be ready to go against Valley, but Carter remains suspended.

Millinghaus, a fast, aggressive point guard, is expected to offer a change of pace as a reserve in the rotation.

While the Rebels have returning starters at the 4 and 5 spots, Carter provides something different, Kennedy says, as a legitimate 3-point threat with a 6-8, 238-pound frame.
