Time to move the high school championships

I caught the end of Head-to-Head radio on Thursday, enough to hear a discussion about the high school championship games being played at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

I’ve written about this in the Daily Journal before. It’s a shame that we take our most significant high school events and put them in facilities that do not compare with those on the college campuses. This applies to football as well as basketball. This spring it applied to baseball, though that event has been held at Trustmark Park in Pearl recently.

Our high school athletes deserve a better venue experience, and I suspect the majority of athletes, coaches and fans would be willing to drive for quality, which they would find on the college campuses in Hattiesburg, Starkville and Oxford.

Amen. I thought exactly the same thing while watching some of the games being played on that terrible turf.

Yes. Could not agree more. USM, MSU, and OM should do a system to share venues annually. Was just tweeting about this two weeks ago. Thanks, Parrish.

  • Why not rotate the game in between the three major colleges? i wish that the SEC would rotate its game in between venues as well to give the western division teams a home field advantage. Rotate it in between Jerry world, the stadium in kansas city, The New orleans superdome and the stadium in Atlanta.

I don’t think you’ll see the SEC in Dallas or Kansas City. It wants to “own” the exposure in Atlanta.
