Tuesday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Tuesday morning …

Watching road conditions and weather this morning. Hoping to leave around mid-day for the Rebels’ 8 p.m. tip at Vanderbilt.

Vanderbilt has gotten off to a slow start (6-8) and as is often the case, there has been a controversial call or two along the way. One was in the Commodores’ 60-58 loss to Kentucky when a Kentucky basket was allowed to stand even though replay showed it left the player’s hand after the shot clock had expired. It was deemed — correctly — to be a non-reviewable play. Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings is trying to get that rule changed.

The status of Vanderbilt point guard Kedren Johnson, a sophomore and the Commodores’ leading scorer, is unknown for tonight’s game. He’s battling a dislocated shoulder that has plagued him much of the season and got worse after a certain play against Arkansas. Johnson is averaging almost 16 points a game. If he can’t go it would be the second straight game that Ole Miss’ opponent did not have its leading scorer. If he can go, he’ll still have to endure some pain during the game, bringing into question his effectiveness for an offense that is struggling to score right now. …
