Marshall Henderson’s hot hand led the Rebels in the second half. That’s been a familiar story line. The difference this time was Henderson had plenty of help.
Murphy Holloway had 16 points, nine rebounds; Reggie Buckner 12 points, seven rebounds, three blocked shots.
Holloway: “It’s fun when the best players on your team all get going at one time.”
Here’s Jarvis Summers:
Elston Turner got a quick seven points but was quiet for a while. He has 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting. Ole Miss had some success against him in the 2-3 zone. The Aggies were sloppy with the ball, and the Rebels got some turnovers during this time.
Led by Turner’s fast start the Aggies were shooting 62.5 percent for a while, but have cooled to 48.1 percent.
There looks to be good energy from Murphy Holloway and Reggie Buckner tonight. Both have scored with offensive rebounds, Buckner twice. Buckner has been able to show that energy less, because he missed time on the bench with two fouls. He also has two blocked shots.
The scouting report on A&M says make the other Aggies beat you, and if Ole Miss can play it that way in the second half, the Rebels should pull out a win. Beyond Turner, no one has been overly impressive. A&M has scored a couple of times when Ole Miss has allowed a pass deep into the post. When the Rebels have prevented that, A&M has not had anyone take over.
Good hustle from Terry Brutus tonight with Buckner on the bench, but Brutus has missed a couple of shots that Buckner might have made, particularly in his energized state.
The Rebels were down 14-7 and went on a 10-0 run to take a lead. It was nip and tuck much of the remainder of the half with eight lead changes in all.
The Rebels pushed out to a 37-30 lead – a run that included a 3-pointer from Anthony Perez – but Brutus missed a good look with the Rebels’ last shot.
The Aggies are plus-2 on the glass, but Ole Miss has a 6-1 edge in second-chance points, four from Buckner, two from Holloway.
