Pitching matchups for FIU series

Game times are 5 today, 3 tomorrow and noon on Sunday.

Today: Junior RHP Bobby Wahl (2-0, 0.79 vs. FIU Jr. RHP Mike Ellis (1-0, 7.45). Wahl is 2-0 in 11.1 innings of work. He’s given up only five hits and only one run but gave up a career-high six walks last week against Rhode Island.

Saturday: Junior RHP Mike Mayers (0-0, 1.69) vs. FIU Jr. LHP Tyler Alexander (1-0, 0.00). Mayers has two no-decisions in two starts but is holding opponents to a .171 batting average.

Sunday: Sophomore RHP Chris Ellis (1-0, 2.25) vs. FIU Jr. RHP Mike Franco (1-0, 7.71): Ellis allowed one run on two hits over four innings in his only previous start. He pitched that game against TCU with an abdominal injury that caused him to miss last week’s start against Rhode Island.

Very good numbers for Alexander, FIU’s Saturday starter, who has given up just one unearned run with six hits, five walks and 13 strikeouts in 12 innings.

The ERAs of the other two FIU starters are unimpressive, but Ole Miss has yet to really hit and score well against weekend pitching.
