Among the things that happened while driving from Tupelo to Oxford are a season-opening football game moved to a Thursday at the awful kick time of 8:15 and the hiring of a defensive backs coach.
The move to Thursday of the Ole Miss-Vanderbilt game, now set for Aug. 29, had long been in the works.
The hiring of Jason Jones, who coached cornerbacks for the last six years at Oklahoma State, was reported by Jimmie Tramel of the Tulsa World.
It appears that Hugh Freeze has replaced experience with experience as Jones follows Wesley McGriff. Though McGriff had been in the game a while longer, Jones is not a newcomer to BCS-level football.
My guess is Jones will be pretty good on the recruiting trail. I would think that would have been high on Freeze’s list.
