Settling into Bridgestone Arena

Settling in here at Bridgestone Arena and enjoying the conversation between Parks and Matchbox.

It’s been a busy weekend for Ole Miss athletics. It gets busier today with the beginning of spring football.

From the mother ship this morning:

Several previous years Andy Kennedy and Ole Miss have been close to the NCAA tournament but have been unable to win “the” game that would put the Rebels over the hump and into the field. They believe they did that with Saturday’s 64-52 SEC semifinal win over Vanderbilt and that they will hear their name called on the selection show later today. The show begins at 5 on CBS.

We often hear coaches and upperclassmen players talk about the senior “sense of urgency.” Reggie Buckner showed that with his play against Vanderbilt.

Ole Miss advanced to today’s championship game against Florida — Tip is at noon and TV is ABC — without the help of sophomore point guard Jarvis Summers, one of their key players, who took an elbow to the head and sustained a concussion against Missouri.

Summers’ status for today remains unclear. Kennedy said it would simply be a matter of whether the doctors cleared him to play. Tests were continuing after the Vanderbilt game. …

In baseball, Arkansas did to Mike Mayers what it couldn’t do to Bobby Wahl, and the Rebels and Razorbacks are tied at 1 game as Game 3 begins at 1:05 today. Ole Miss had a 12-game win streak snapped. …

In football, spring practice begins today at 3. Check out some of the top story lines here.

The Ole Miss “Hotdog Show”!! It should be good and interesting event and to see just how the Gators will handle the Ole Miss “Hotdog”, or if the can. I gota ride the fence on this one but it could change as the game progress. JB
