Henderson second team again

Marshall Henderson has another first-team snub to help motivate him for the NCAA tournament.

The Associated Press has released its All-SEC team. Henderson has been named newcomer of the year, but he did not make the first team.

Henderson averaged 23.6 points a game and was named MVP of the SEC tournament, leading the Rebels to three wins and the NCAA tournament’s automatic bid with their 66-63 win over Florida on Sunday.

The AP’s first team included player of the year Kentavious Caldwell-Pope of Georgia, Alabama guard Trevor Releford, Tennessee guard Jordan McRae, Florida forward Erik Murphy and Kentucky forward Nerlens Noel.

The second team included LSU forward Johnny O’Bryant, Tennessee forward Jarnell Stokes, guards Phil Pressey of Missouri and Elston Turner of Texas A&M, along with Henderson and Ole Miss forward Murphy Holloway.

From Sec web site: Ole Miss “hotdog” did get some recognition. PLAYER OF THE YEAR — Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Georgia

COACH OF THE YEAR — Billy Donovan, Florida

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR — Marshall Henderson, Mississippi

    • That should have been Nerlens Noel; I don’t remember that new come award before. Must be something the invented to assuage guilt for not giving the devil his due

  • It’s a shame. Henderson could be using his notoriety as a platform for good things, but instead he is just another self promoter. You wonder if he showed better sportsmanship, if he would have gotten 1st team. I feel for the Ole MI$$ fans that are of an impressionable age…to have to see this guy’s actions and will probably think it’s cool, then go out and emulate those acts of poor sportsmanship. Wow!

And I feel for the impressionable young fans of the Udder school having seen those poor acts of sportmanship from doggie fans like you as well as that football coach you have there…

It is a good thing that most Moo U scans can’t read or else they might try to emulate you.

Yes, Ole Miss needs a leader like Renardo Sidney. I don’t endorse Henderson’s behavior, but you are right in that he would have gotten first team with more traditional behavior.

After these SEC championship performances Murph deserved first team, and Kennedy- Coach of the Year…..and if you base the choice on talent, Marshall should have been in there. How can you not have the SEC’s leading scorer on the 1st team? Just goes to show there is freedom of the press, as long as you own one. Billy should have been last choice for C.O.T.Y. honors. He has the best talent money could buy and still didn’t win when it counted. All of this is b.s. based on $$$ and politics. Who is the Associated Press anyway? Sounds like Wal-Mart trying to come up with a fancy name for their employees, calling them associates so they won’t know their real title is minimum wage stock boy. If you win, you don’t need affirmation, you can just go to the trophy and see it right there for all eternity. Marshall has sold a lot of newspapers across the country this year. From sea to shining sea the “Associated Press” hasn’t had a problem with making money off of him. If I were Marshall, I’d stop giving interviews to anyone affiliated with the “AP’. He sure made for a good read for all the typewriter workers…Sorry, I meant to say serious journalists. “We are what we think we are.”

“Billy should have been last choice for C.O.T.Y. honors”, you still have an ax to grind on our State of Florida. But the places that you hung out in is understandable. BIlly led his troop with the only team in SEC play to be rated in top 25 this season. Ole Miss and their “Hotdog” just got lucky and happen to beat Gators in this tournament play. just how much luck will they carry into this NCAA play? We shall just wait and see!!! I doubt the “hotdog” will survive the ‘”Cheese Heads”.. JB

I agree that OM probably won’t go deep in NCAA play, but at last AK got the monkey off his back. As I said, winning is all that really matters. Coach that wins should be honored or one that takes an underdog a long way. Florida was neither a underdog or a winner when it counted. What place you are in the rankings doesn’t add up to a hill of beans. Showboat or not, I guarantee Marshall has increased the number of readers of NCAA basketball articles nation wide. You can’t deny the kid bring electricity to the game. I’m no basketball Guru, just a realest. Winning trumps all, including me, who hath been a critic of Kennedy in the past.
