Bjork’s extension

Ole Miss announced earlier this afternoon that it has extended the contract of AD Ross Bjork to the four-year maximum allowed by state law and has upped his salary to $60,000 to $460,000 a year.

Today is the one-year anniversary of Bjork’s hiring.

He is here in Kansas City with the basketball team and is pleased to be at the same site with his friends from Western Kentucky. He left Western to accept the Ole Miss job.

I joked with Bjork in Nashville about his first year and told him everything he touched had turned to gold.

Chancellor Dan Jones must believe the same thing. Here’s his quote: “It is hard to imagine an athletics director who has had a more successful first year. Ross and his team have worked hard to bring Rebel Nation together. Is is clear he has gained the confidence of the fan base, his colleagues in athletics administration, our coaches and athletes and donors. And he certainly has my complete confidence.”

Bjork’s first year has seen an unexpected winning season and bowl victory for football, the first NCAA tournament for men’s basketball since 2002 and a baseball team currently ranked No. 6.

It has also included a women’s basketball scandal in which he acted swiftly to remove to assistant coaches at the heart of academic misconduct issues. He also fired head coach Adrian Wiggins, who was not implicated in the wrong doing. An NCAA investigation into the program continues.

  • Wow! Did Mizzu get their craniums pooped in or what?
The SEC might have to declare themselves a D2 league in hoops after this catostrophic season. This will go down as the absolute worst season in SEC basketball history. Hey, but it at least gave Ole Mi$$ their 1st ever SEC tourny championship, so something good came out of it. The question is….which of the remaining 2 SEC teams will go further? My money and I mean alot of it, is on Ole Mi$$. Better not let me down, Squidward. The Most Volatile Player better drain some 3’s or I will be on him like jelly on rice. Hope he didn’t stay up late playing beer pong with Nkemdichi and da boyz.
