Sophomore right-hander Chris Ellis will start for Ole Miss Sunday in Game 3 at Florida.
Mike Bianco really likes the potential of Ellis, but Ellis hasn’t been working through an abdominal injury and hasn’t been able to get on the mound much. He struggled in relief in Game 3 against Texas A&M, his first time on the mound since the season opener against TCU.
Ellis has thrown five innings this year and has given up five hits, five walks and five earned runs.
He said Bianco had told him before the A&M game that he was going to pitch.
“It was something I wanted, even though it ended up not working out the best, being a competitor and everything,” Ellis said.
The good news was that he felt no lingering effects from that outing in Monday.
“I felt good. I’m kind of a second-day sore guy, but I wasn’t sore at all. I felt like a million bucks,” he said.
That could be good news for Ole Miss which is trying to get not only Ellis but Hawtin Buchanan and freshman Jacob Waguespack back healthy and pitching.
