The search for depth

Hugh Freeze spent a lot of time talking about depth yesterday.

Personally, I think depth is a lot better on this football right now. I know coaches never have enough depth. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle of those two theories.

Clearly it’s not a deep team right now, but this is spring. You knew you were going to be without Bo Wallace and Aaron Morris. That’s not an altogether bad thing as it allows snaps for others.

D.T. Shackelford can provide great depth at linebacker — perhaps win a starting job — if he’s truly over two knee surgeries and two years away. While he’s looked good so far, that question can’t be truly answered until he gets into a game.

Lots of depth at running back right now, not so much at receiver.

This is the here and now, and the depth should get a big boost when the freshmen and newcomers report in August.

From the mother ship, the depth of the Rebels.
