Egg Bowl and TV

Interesting TV numbers here that were compiled by media relations and tacked on to the end of the Ole Miss press release yesterday on the Egg Bowl’s move back to Thanksgiving. The cover the last three years of the Egg Bowl and clearly show the power of ESPN vs. its sister station, ESPNU.

Thanksgiving has traditionally been an NFL day. The night of Thanksgiving presented a natural TV opening, especially with the popularity of the ESPN Thursday night game, and Ole Miss and MSU had a successful six-year run.

Egg Bowl TV viewers – last three years

2010: Mississippi State at Ole Miss, 531,560 (ESPNU)

2011: Ole Miss at Mississippi State, 409,911 (ESPNU)

2012: Mississippi State at Ole Miss, 502,011 (ESPNU)


Thanksgiving TV viewers – last three years

2010: Texas A&M at Texas, 4.9M (ESPN)

2011: Texas at Texas A&M, 4.1M (ESPN)

2012: TCU at Texas, 1.9M (ESPN)
